The Chashmonaim Today

Imagine the holy city of Yerushalayim — a different one. The capital has been radically reconfigured and is on the brink of collapse. A chaotic spiritual darkness is closing in: an emerging dictatorship led by the “Progressive administration,” under the auspices of “the Commission.” The neighborhoods of the “Loyalists” who live by the Torah, soon take on the appearance of besieged ghettos. New decrees have been enforced without mercy; the voice of Torah has been silenced. Shabbos has been erased. The Beis Hamikdash has been transformed into a museum of foreign culture. Yet in the midst of despair and seemingly spiritual darkness, a bright spark is ignited. A small band of Loyalists escapes the city’s ruins to establish camps in the desert and the Judean Hills. There, under cover of desolation, the seeds of rebellion are sown. What begins as refugees fleeing for survival becomes an unexpected civilian militia. Standing against the Commission’s tanks, aircraft, and advanced weaponry are a handful of front-line yerei Shamayim fighters, bolstered by burning faith, extraordinary courage, and the knowledge that Hashem is at their side. This is the story of The Chashmonaim Today. It is not a creative retelling of the original story of Chanukah, with heroes from the righteous Chashmonaim. Rather, this novel boldly presents an imaginative allegory that portrays a world in which ancient challenges return in a new guise, while the heart of the contemporary Jew is called upon for the very same age-old mesirus nefesh. Offering a fresh and timely perspective on the eternal battle between emes and sheker, The Chashmonaim Today explores the enduring spirit of the authentic, loyal Jew, a force that is, was, and will always be unbreakable. The journey from darkness to light begins here. The Chashmonaim Today. NEW from the author of Yetzias Mitzrayim Today. Page count 447
